News : Long Overdue Update!
    05/01/06 3:13pm

Anybody who visits my website already knows it has been almost a year since the last update. Things have been very busy for a long time and updating my website has taken a backseat to other important and exciting things. First things first, after a great start to the 2005 season, including leading the series on a few different occasions, I ended up 7th overall in the championship. I had a string of bad luck that included 5 mechanical failures and one accident that put me out while leading the race. I would like to thank all the wonderful people I met at Russell and raced with over the past 2 years. Especially Chuck Hulse, Steve Hill, and Bruce Feldman, and Fernando dias Ribeiro, four stellar guys who made my race weekends entertaining and exciting.

I have a very different goal for 2006 that doesn't involve racing. I will be competing in 1 race weekend this year probably in May or June, but other than that I am focusing on trying to stay sane while working and going to school full time. Which brings me to the next point.

Starting Fall of '06 I will be a Junior at Purdue University finishing my mechanical engineering degree. I cannot afford to continue racing and finish my education so I've decided to make my education a priority for now. Once I finish school I hope to work on a race team as a race engineer, so if anybody has any contacts that can help me out, please feel free to email me.

I plan on updating this site from time to time, but with the lack of racing going on at the moment, they definitely won't be regular updates anymore. Thanks to all those who visited my site and followed my racing.

News : Spiering back on top!
    05/23/05 11:36am

Jeremy Spiering notched up another win this weekend during rounds 5 and 6 of the ESPN Russell Racing Championship, catapulting him back into the lead.

Jeremy qualified on pole for Saturday's race, his first pole position of the season. His fastest lap was 2/10ths of second faster than 2nd place qualifier, Scott Schroeder. At the start of the race Jeremy had a problem shifting and relinquished the lead to Schroeder. After a few laps he repassed Schroeder for the lead in turn 7. Jeremy extended his lead for the remainder of the race and took the checkered flag. Jeremy set fastest lap of the race for the 3rd time this year on the 2nd to last lap of the race.

On Sunday, Jeremy qualified a disappointing 8th. Throughout the race he was able to make move up to 5th.

"Today has been a big disappointment for me, especially after yesterdays performance. The car I had today just didn't have enough power for me to qualify anywhere but 8th which is the slowest time I've posted all year. I'm just happy I was able to improve my position in the race that I was able to regain the lead in the championship."

Jeremy scored 28 points over the weekend to bring his total to 73. This brings him into a tie for the lead for the second time this season with Fernando dias Ribeiro.

News : Rounds 3 and 4 - Disappointing weekend for Spiering
    04/18/05 11:22am

Jeremy had a disappointing weekend for rounds 3 and 4 of the ESPN Russell Racing Championship. Saturdays race, April 16th, Jeremy qualified 6th and was able to maintain his position finishing 6th in the race. On Sunday Jeremy posted the 2nd fastest qualifying lap but due to a last lap spin was forced to start from the back of grid. To make matters worse, the car he qualified in was wrecked in another race forcing him to race in a backup car. The backup car was down on power but Jeremy still was able to move up to 7th place in the race. As a result of his 6th and 7th place finishes Jeremy has dropped to 3rd place behind Fernando dias Ribeiro and Jess Peterson.

News : Spiering off to a winning start in 2005
    03/15/05 6:16pm

Jeremy came away from the first race weekend of the SCCA Formula Russell Championship with a win and a 2nd place finish in rounds 1 and 2 of the series. On Saturday, Jeremy qualified 3rd for the first round of competition behind last years Master Division winner Fernando dias Ribeiro and series newcomer Patrick Kelly. Jeremy battled with Ribeiro for the first half of the race before passing him taking the fight to Kelly. Spiering and Kelly battled fiercely exchanging position several times in the latter stages of the race before Kelly spun under braking in the turn 9-9a chicane. Spiering went on to take the checkered flag and victory over Ribeiro.

"What a great way to start out the season with a win like this. It feels great to come out on top after such a hard fought race. I had such a great time battling with Patrick for the last few laps. We exchanged positions at least twice a lap for a few laps there and I'm happy that I came out on top. I had the fastest lap of the race today and I expect that I will be a strong contender for tomorrow's race."

On Sunday, Jeremy qualified 2nd for round 2 of the Russell Championship. Starting from pole was 16 year old Dane Cameron while series veteran Fernando dias Ribeiro started from the 3rd position. The 3 drivers were separated by less than 2/10ths of a second from each other. At the start of the race Spiering slotted in behind Cameron and immediately began to pressure him. On lap 4 he executed a pass under braking for the turn 11 hairpin. After taking the lead Spiering began to pull away from both Ribeiro and Cameron. After a few laps Ribeiro passed Cameron and got up next to Jeremy in turn 1. The two drivers went side by side through turns 1, 2, and 3, before Ribeiro finally sealed the deal in turn 3a. Jeremy then dropped to 3rd losing 2nd position to Cameron. After several laps of battling with Cameron, Spiering again made his move under braking in turn 11 to retake 2nd place. Jeremy went on to finish 2nd just behind race winner Ribeiro.

"I feel good coming home with a 2nd place finish. I had a good car today, but it just wasn't strong enough to pass Fernando. Still I am happy to have gotten the fastest lap for the 2nd race in a row. This has been almost a perfect start to the year and I am excited for the rest of the season."

News : 3rd place finish in the SCCA Formula Russell Championship
    11/22/04 4:28pm

Jeremy finished 3rd place overall in the SCCA Formula Russell Championship after finishing 5th in the final race of the season. During the qualifying session for the season finale, Jeremy posted the 4th fastest time. However, due to a spin on cold tires in the qualify session he was forced to start the race from 12th place. Jeremy quickly made up positions at the start of the race moving up to eight by the end of the first lap. He passed to more cars before the end of lap 2 moving into 6th spot. After moving into 5th spot the lead pack of 4 cars had a significant gap on the rest of the field. Jeremy starting turning in fast laps and was slowly catching the leaders. The gap to the leaders was too much to overcome though as the laps wound down. He finished the race in 5th before having a chance to battle with the leaders.

As a result of finishing 3rd in the championship, Jeremy received 4 free races next year in the SCCA Russell Series.

Jeremy would like to thank his sponsor Valley Machine Service for their support of his 2004 racing season. Jeremy plans on being back in 2005 to contend for the championship in the SCCA Formula Russell Series.

News : Rounds 17 and 18 - Jeremy in 3rd place with 1 race to go
    10/19/04 12:10pm

Jeremy continues to hold onto 3rd place in the championship after rounds 17 and 18 of the SCCA Formula Russell Championship.

Jeremy qualified 2nd for round 17 on Saturday, October 16th. Jeremy battled hard with several drivers throughout the race and was able to hold his starting position to finish 2nd. J.R. Hildebrand, the series points leader, had a spin in qualifying which made him start from the back. He tangled with Stan Kohls on the 1st lap of the race and scored no points. As a result, Jeremy moved to within 15 points of the lead.

Jeremy had another good qualifying run on Sunday for round 18, once again qualifying 2nd. The conditions were extremely wet and slippery and the cars were running on rain tires. Points leader J.R. Hildebrand grabbed the pole position by less than 2/10ths of a second. The track had dried by the time the race started. During the race Jeremy had contact with Chuck Hulse and both drivers were forced to make pit stops and went a lap down to the leaders. About half way through the race it started to rain and the cars were brought into the garages to put on rain tires. The race was restarted in the same order as it stopped. Jeremy was able to make several passes in the rain but none of the passes were for position as he was a lap down. Jeremy finished 10th and brought home 1 point.

Jeremy is currently sitting 3rd in the points and he is looking forward to the season finale at Infineon Raceway on November 20th.

    09/20/04 5:32pm

Jeremy qualified 2nd for round 15 of the SCCA Formula Russell Championship on Saturday, September 18th. At the start of the race Jeremy went side by side through turn 1 with pole sitter Pieter Rossi and the two remained side by through turns 2 and 3. At the exit of 3A Jeremy was ahead and maintained the lead for the rest of the race, fighting off a late race charge from points leader Fernando dias Ribeiro. The win on Saturday helped bring Jeremy closer to Fernando and J.R. Hildebrand in the championship points battle.

Round 16 was held the next day and Jeremy qualified 9th. It was his worst qualifying session of the year. In the race Jeremy battled hard trying to make his way past slower cars. On lap 3 he spun in turn 9 and lost two positions. Recovering quickly from the spin he began to battle back to an eventual 6th place finish.
